Debs' story
"I joined Toastmasters originally as part of a corporate club, meeting at lunch times in the office.
Although I had to present as part of my role, I still got very nervous when speaking, particularly speaking without notes. I liked the format of toastmasters - having a mix of prepared speeches and impromptu speaking. I also think the process of evaluating all speakers is really valuable as you are able to get some positive feedback and things to work on each time you speak.
My favourite part of meetings is table topics - being given a speech topic on the spot and having to speak for 2 minutes about it!
I joined Thame Speakers five years ago and I immediately felt welcomed. We have a lovely mix of beginner and more experienced speakers, from a range of backgrounds and it's great to hear speeches on so many different topics!"
